The Commodores have eight remaining games this season. They need two wins to become bowl eligible and three to seal the deal. So which ones are most winnable? Glad you asked.
1. Duke, Oct. 25 in Nashville: Cutliffe has the Dookies at 3-1, and this is no gimme. Still, it's the most winnable game by far left on the Commodore slate.
2. Miss State, Oct. 11 in Starkville: The Bulldogs are a tough, physical team, but their 38-7 drubbing at the hands of the run-oriented Georgia Tech Yellowjackets was encouraging.
3. Kentucky, Nov. 15 in Lexington: Defensively, the Wildcats are a tough team, but they lack the offensive weapons they've had in the past.
4. Tennessee, Nov. 22 in Nashville: It feels like 2005 all over again. On paper, the Volunteers are much better than the Commodores, and there's still a lot of football left to be played. But you can feel the desperation building in Knoxville.
5. Wake Forest, Nov. 29 in Winston-Salem: The model of success for the Commodores, the Demon Deacons are machine-like in their approach to the game and their results on the scoreboard. Well, usually. But what the heck happened last week against Navy?
6. Auburn, Saturday in Nashville: Have I mentioned how dangerous the Tigers are? This team is loaded. The defense is ferocious. Sure, the offense is being recalibrated but the Tigers will start racking up the points soon. Hopefully it won't be this week.
7. Georgia, Oct. 18 in Athens: The Commodores believe they can beat the Bulldogs because they did it two years ago and they almost did it last year. But the Alabama debacle has made this team hungry again.
8. Florida, Nov. 8 in Nashville: Vanderbilt hasn't beaten Florida since Galen Hall was at the helm. The Commodores have a bye week before this one, for whatever that's worth.
