Austin Monahan says he and Brandon Barden the 'nation's best tight end combination'

A lot of Vandy fans are worried about the wide receiving corps, especially with Terence Jeffers-Harris being declared academically ineligible and no starter yet named at quarterback.

But don't forget that tight ends catch passes too, and Vanderbilt has nothing to worry about in that department.

You're probably thinking about Brandon Barden, the 6-5, 250-pound All-Freshman SEC selection who had game-changing TD catches against South Carolina and Auburn, and rightfully so. But don't forget about Austin Monahan, the 6-7, 255-pound sophomore who started the first four games before a season-ending shoulder injury against Ole Miss.

These guys are so good that Vandy's already moved junior Justin Green, who's 6-6, 232 pounds, over to wide receiver.

How good are Barden and Monahan? Well, just ask Monahan.

He said this after yesterday's practice:

"Me and Barden, we can go out there... two tight ends... and match up on linebackers and just toast them. Personally, I think we’re the best tight end combination in the nation right now."

Come on, Austin, tell us what you really think. He also said he's fully recovered from his shoulder injury. Go to the offical VU Web site to see the video interview.
