No, this is not the same old Vanderbilt

I loved James Frankin's comments in the postgame press conference.

This team is not snakebit. This team is not still under a curse. And no, this is not the same old Vanderbilt.

We lost because we didn't play well enough, and we're working to get better. Here are some of the highlights:

• "We’re light years ahead of where we were when I arrived on this campus. This is not the same old Vanderbilt. This is not the same old Vanderbilt. I’m not going to allow anybody to write anything or report anything different. We are going to find ways real soon how to finish those games like that and we’re not going to make those mistakes much longer, I can guarantee you that."

• "I thought we played hard, I didn’t think we played smart. You can’t beat yourself."

• "I appreciate all the fans that showed up."

• "We've got to allow other teams to beat themselves, we can’t beat ourselves."

• "We’re not defeated. (The players) understand this is a step in the right direction. No one’s going to give you anything. You've got to go out and take it."

• On Carey Spear: "He's going to make kicks to win games this year and throughout his career. He’s a big-time kicker and we still believe in him."

• "You can learn lessons and win. You don’t have to lose to win lessons."

So how is this game any different from past Vandy heartbreakers?:

"We had a chance after those huge momentum plays in the other direction, and we stole it back."

I know we are not all of a sudden going to start winning every game but.... damn we desererved to win that one.

BTW .. Franklin must be a frikkin genius to get 462 yds from this bunch that has been one of the worst in the nation for a long time. I am VERY encouraged about that.

I am going to go to the UK and UT games, hold my head up high and hope we take care of business!!

Go Dores!! I'm still all in.

I was at the game and after having 24 hours to regain my sanity, I am very encouraged about this team. CJF told us that "there are no moral victories....and that this team has a long way to go". Even with the dropped interceptions and to many quarterback draws primarily in the 2nd half, we had a chance to win and should have won. Some of the play-calling seemed a little suspect with the halfback pass to Barden which was intercepted. If we run that route, I would rather have my qb throw the ball to Barden not a running back; also felt that if Rogers had just a little more time that he had wr's open especially on some deep routes before taking off running. I'm not sure that the Ark defense respected our wr deep routes as they started jumping the short routes early in the game. Obviously the 4th quarter fumble was the killer, but I love what Stacy brings to the team. I don't think that Ark would have come back even with their high powered offense if we score that touchdown on the Stacy fumble. I really respect the way CJF handled his team after the loss. CJF understands that as painful as the loss is, that he needs Zack Stacy for the remainder of the season and it's best to learn from this and move on. I still think 6 wins is in our sights. Go Dores !

Good post. Thanks. And Greg, you're right to note how remarkable it is that our OFFENSE gained 462 yards.

Although Zac's fumble was a killer, the (uncharacteristic)dropped picks were a concern since the D-Line and company were working hard to mess Wilson up.......and they were getting to him. Good defensive plan, but there should have been some picks and even (some) picks that weren't so obvious. Passes that were thrown well as he was going down. Wilson is a big boy, he was getting a little groggy with the pounding and maybe a few picks might have made a 100 yds or so difference or even a another score on our part. Hell, Wilson might not have even lasted through overtime!!!!!!
