1. Florida: No. 1 AP/No. 1 USA Today
2. Alabama: 4/4
3. Ole Miss: 5/6
4. LSU: 9/7
5. Georgia: 23/20
6. Auburn: 33/31
7. Arkansas: 40/44T
8. Kentucky: --/38
9. South Carolina: --/44
Not ranked: Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Miss State

That is because the ranking system that college football uses is moronic at best. For example, Houston who beat Oklahoma State is 5 places lower in this week's AP poll and 10 in the Coaches' poll. Houston is 27th in the Coaches and Ok. State is 17th!!! And the coaches poll is the one that counts! How can coaches be given a poll. How many of the coaches' poll voters even know who Houston's QB is? The way we pick a national champion in college football is just plain weird.
The problem, I think, is preseason rankings. We should wait until maybe Week 3 to rank the teams. Instead, the preseason polls, which are just predictions of how the season will turn out, decide which teams will be in the driver's seat for the rest of the season.
