From my perspective, anything in the pre-Bear Bryant era doesn't even belong in the same conversation as the college football that's been played for the past 40 or 50 years. And don't even think about head-to-head matchups. Even the sainted 1982 Commodore team of my era would get their brains beaten in by any Vandy team of the past 10 years. OK, maybe they'd beat one of Woody's teams after Woody tried a failed fake punt late in the game...1050 lb.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03974320012810453560noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7415996603985116861.post-42438804525455139342009-07-16T17:32:37.879-05:002009-07-16T17:32:37.879-05:00You, my friend, sound like a student of history. The goal posts on the goal line were cool, though.DIMON KENDRICK-HOLMEShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09810097539680781858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7415996603985116861.post-29246414951988345072009-07-16T16:28:18.068-05:002009-07-16T16:28:18.068-05:00True, but I'm pretty sure "ever" inc...True, but I'm pretty sure "ever" includes 1897.Anything but Gatoradehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17006770456109241897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7415996603985116861.post-2432730099619043892009-07-16T10:42:03.984-05:002009-07-16T10:42:03.984-05:00I say if somebody saw the team of 1897 play and he...I say if somebody saw the team of 1897 play and he's posting about it, then I'll defer to him, in addition to being impressed with his mastery of technology at such an old age.DIMON KENDRICK-HOLMEShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09810097539680781858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7415996603985116861.post-90993761767064107202009-07-16T08:15:27.175-05:002009-07-16T08:15:27.175-05:00I think the topic is a tough call. It's certainly easy to pick the teams with the best records as "the best ever", but if those teams never played in the era where a forward pass was legal, it's hard to make them stand up. I'm conflicted.

History is history, though, and if you've got a doughnut in the loss column, that's a great season.Anything but Gatoradehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17006770456109241897noreply@blogger.com
